Experience the tension of hunting or being hunted, a world depicting life in nature and the people sustained by its gifts, the exhilaration of confronting overwhelming monsters with huge weapons, and the joy of achieving a goal through your own strength, wisdom and courage. Monster Hunter takes a new step forward.

Fields alive with diverse creatures

Various fields teem with different groups of living creatures.

Ancient Forest: a vast forest filled with life. Trees growing together form an enormous ancient tree reaching high into the sky. It encompasses the forest's creatures and forms an ecosystem.

Wildspire Waste: a wilderness combining extensive dry regions with marshes fed by water from the ancient tree. Huge anthills rise from the sandy land, and colourful plants flourish around the water. Creatures adapted to each environment gather in this land with two faces.

The vast dry region is lined with giant anthills. Its expanses of sand convey a harsh environment.

In the marsh-filled wilderness, creatures gather in search of plants and water, while large monsters inhabit the area to prey upon them.

Monsters of the wilderness

Jyuratodus (ジュラトドス): a large piscine wyvern living in the Wildspire Waste's marshes. It uses mud to catch prey and protect itself, and may fight other monsters over territory. Known as the Mud Fish Wyvern, it claims the marsh as its territory, threatening prey with its speed and use of the terrain, and cornering them with mud attacks.

Barroth (ボルボロス): this monster wanders in search of its favourite food, ants, marking its territory with mud. It attacks intruders with its characteristic charge. Known as the Mud Wyvern, it coats itself in mud and appears to scatter mud as a means of attack.

Kulu-Ya-Ku (クルルヤック): a bird wyvern adept at holding objects with its developed forelegs. It is frequently seen stealing monster eggs from the Ancient Forest and Wildspire Waste and carrying them away. It can also skilfully protect itself with a rock held in its forelegs.

Noios (ノイオス): a wingdrake that reacts to stimulation by producing a loud blast. Groups are often seen gathering, but…

Mernos (メルノス): a wingdrake that favours tree nuts such as Scatternuts. When startled, its flock moves en masse. If you can successfully hang on, it may help you travel long distances.

Additional monsters

Kulve Taroth (マム・タロト), the golden elder dragon: an enormous elder dragon clad in shining metal. Its ecology and the metal it wears appear to vary between individuals. When the opportunity arises, a thorough investigation is warranted.

Lunastra (ナナ・テスカトリ), the empress flame dragon: a rare female elder dragon that surrounds herself with powder and summons blue hellfire. She is Teostra's mate, and the pair have reportedly been seen acting together.

Deviljho (イビルジョー), the savage dragon: its intense metabolism requires continuous feeding, so it constantly roams in search of prey. Extremely violent, it is said to swing around even large monsters held in its jaws.

Collaboration with Final Fantasy XIV

Behemoth: a beast from another world with a muscular body and two enormous horns. It transcends nature's normal order, so investigation requires special preparation and resolve.

Cactuar appears as endemic life. What might happen if you approach and stimulate one you find? Small cactuars and flowering small cactuars also appear.

Collaboration weapons and armour evoke the dragon-slaying Dragoon from Final Fantasy XIV. Palico equipment also lets your companion become a Moogle.

Other featured monsters

Nergigante (ネルギガンテ), the extinction dragon: a mysterious monster that appears before the Research Commission. It destroys everything without regard for its own body, earning its fearsome name.

Zorah Magdaros (ゾラ・マグダラオス), the melting-mountain dragon: an elder dragon that appeared before the Fifth Fleet and arrived in the New World alongside it. It is one of the elder dragons undertaking the Elder Crossing.

Rathalos (リオレウス), the fire wyvern: the monster at the top of the Ancient Forest's ecosystem. Scales and claw marks remain in its territory, and it attacks intruders without mercy.

Rathian (リオレイア), the female fire wyvern: she hunts primarily on land and is also known as the Queen of the Land. Pairs have been observed hunting together. Powerful legs and a venomous tail allow her to bring down prey.

Other hunting features

Wedge Beetles: these insects glow at particular places in the field. The Slinger is a hunter's new standard equipment and can be used when your weapon is sheathed. Aim at a glowing Wedge Beetle and fire to launch a rope, hook onto it and move.

Palico: a dependable companion supporting the player. This beastfolk creature understands human language and displays a variety of realistic, endearing expressions.
