Before battle, the war council lets you decide on an operation and also place military facilities and traps. Combine operations, tactics and traps to achieve greater results.

New siege battles turn realistic castles into battlefields

For the first time in the series, play transitions seamlessly from the nationwide map into a siege. Enjoy varied ways to besiege a castle, including negotiations with its lord, flooding attacks and tunneling assaults.

Several sieges in different places can proceed simultaneously, keeping the pace moving.

Subterfuge brings the intrigue of the Sengoku era to life

The much-requested subterfuge system adds a new means of strategy. Begin by carrying out covert operations against an enemy faction to contact officers with low loyalty and conduct preliminary negotiations.

If an officer is found who may agree to a secret pact under the right conditions, you receive a report and can begin negotiating that pact.

Start with small talk to improve their impression of you, then present terms such as a guaranteed appointment as castle lord, a treasured heirloom or money. Consider which enemy officer to approach and how much you are prepared to offer in return.

An officer who accepts a secret pact can do more than provide conventional support from within. Leave them working secretly inside the enemy faction to pass you information, raising your policy power, or have them introduce other officers who may accept a pact.

You can also order them to defect during a decisive battle or siege, turning the military situation around in an instant.

Castle-lord negotiations and encirclement bring new tension

The new siege system lets you settle a confrontation by negotiating with the castle's lord as well as by capturing the keep.

The attacking side can approach the defending lord with negotiations. If successful, the stronghold can be handed over and enemy officers persuaded to surrender, bringing the siege to an end while keeping losses to a minimum.

Enjoy a wide range of siege tactics, from overwhelming force based on troop numbers to a castle's surrender through skillful negotiation.

Grand Orders emphasize each daimyo's individuality

Grand Orders, called Taimei, offer a new option in political strategy and greatly increase its tactical depth.

Use the policy power gained at seasonal councils to activate an order whenever you choose. Its effects may strengthen your army, disrupt an enemy faction or raise the loyalty of your own officers.

There are many types of Grand Order, including some exclusive to particular daimyo. Furin Kazan can be used only by Takeda Shingen and Katsuyori, while Ikko Ikki is exclusive to Honganji Shonyo and Kennyo.

The types and number available differ among daimyo houses, giving each a stronger individual character. Knowing in advance which orders neighboring factions can activate is as important as understanding your own options.

Regional Mode offers a different experience from Nationwide Mode

The new Regional Mode is designed for shorter sessions. Japan is divided into six regions, including Kanto, Kinki and Kyushu, and you aim to unify each region.

Regional Mode can be played with every scenario selectable in Nationwide Mode, with developments that differ from the nationwide experience.

Clearing regional campaigns also unlocks new scenarios and portrait illustrations for created officers.

More scenarios, new factions and editors

New scenarios include the Battle of Sekigahara and the Siege of Osaka. Newly drawn officer portraits, new events, movies and background music add further variety.

Familiar editors let you modify officers and strongholds. New-faction creation and territory reassignment add many more ways to play and replay.
