The story of Aya and Saki—half-sisters who hate one another and fight to the death—receives a new interpretation, with Katsumi Enami appointed as the main character designer.

Following the first game in 2004, the series reached its fifteenth anniversary in 2019. The latest game, Onee Chanbara Origin, serves as both an origin story and a culmination, revealing every truth.

A tale of sisters in a world overrun by the Undead

Tokyo, in the year 20XX.

It is a devastated era overrun by living corpses known as the Undead. Among the descendants of a bloodline whose trade is swordsmanship are two sisters born to different mothers.

The older sister lived with her father. Trained by this strict parent, she grew up devoting herself to the sword.

The younger sister lived with her mother. She grew up hating the father who abandoned her and her kind mother, taking the older sister away with him.

Eventually, the father disappeared. Left alone, the older sister put her swordsmanship to use as an Undead hunter.

After someone murdered her beloved mother, the younger sister was also left alone. She began controlling the Undead and became a revenge-seeker consumed by madness.

The older sister seeks her younger sister, her only blood relative.

The younger sister seeks to resurrect her mother through a secret art handed down from ancient times.

That secret art requires the heart of a blood relative.

Aya, the older sister and master swordswoman

A beautiful swordswoman who carries on the Baneful Bloodline, a clan whose trade has been assassination since ancient times. She possesses an exceptional natural talent for swordsmanship.

From childhood, Aya lived alone with her father Oboro, himself a master swordsman. Through his strict daily training, she grew strong enough to match her father while still young.

One day, Oboro learned that Tsubaki, Aya's stepmother who lived apart from them, had been brutally murdered by someone. He disappeared without a trace.

Left alone, Aya was contacted by a woman calling herself Lei, who claimed to provide information for hunting the Undead. Aya began working as an Undead hunter.

She believed that if she kept defeating the Undead, she might someday find her father Oboro—and ultimately her younger half-sister Saki...

Saki, the younger sister who stands against Aya

Aya's half-sister. When she was young, her father Oboro took Aya and left home. Raised alone by her mother, Saki relied entirely on the kindness of Tsubaki for emotional support.

One day, however, someone took her mother's life, and Saki lost the foundation of her world...

After learning that her beloved mother had been killed by the father who abandoned them and by her older half-sister Aya, Saki resolved to take revenge and honed her swordsmanship.

She also learned of an ancient secret art that could bring her mother back to life.

For that, she needed the living heart of someone carrying a stronger concentration of Baneful Blood.

Using her ability to summon and command the Undead, Saki plotted to lure Aya out...

What is the Baneful Blood, or Imichi?

Its origins stretch back to ancient Japan.

A clan of assassins continually practiced a form of self-cultivation that stimulated the blood within their bodies. Over time, a mutation suddenly arose.

The first people said to have carried—or brought into being—the Baneful Blood were the sisters of the clan's leader.

By excessively stimulating its bearer's mind and body, this blood makes feats of physical exertion many times beyond ordinary human ability possible.

The sisters attempted to reproduce the technique that had created their special blood. Every male clan member subjected to it went insane afterward. The procedure succeeded only in some women who possessed a form of antibody; the rest died.

This tragedy gave the blood its name, Baneful Blood. From then on, the clan called itself the Baneful Bloodline.

The blood relatives of the founders—the sisters—carried the strongest concentration and formed the main family. Those who inherited an artificial bloodline almost identical to that of the founding sisters formed the branch families.

The branch families later became obsessed with producing blood stronger than the main family's. Following a certain incident, however, the main family condemned them, ultimately leading to the clan's decline.
