Unparalleled, exhilarating swordplay returns on modern hardware
First released in 2001, the hugely popular Onimusha makes its long-awaited return. Sharper graphics and controls adapted for modern hardware make it easier to play. Enjoy this exhilarating action masterpiece.
Originally released on PlayStation 2, Onimusha captivated players around the world with its supremely satisfying swordplay and its story of a fierce struggle against the Genma.
Actor Takeshi Kaneshiro provided the model and voice for the protagonist, Samanosuke. He also took part in the game's planning as a guest creator, an innovative approach at the time.
This release features newly recorded Japanese voices and newly created background music that brings its sweeping world to life.
A fierce battle between the Oni and the Genma
Summer, 1560, the third year of the Eiroku era.
Imagawa Yoshimoto's great army leaves Suruga for the capital of Kyoto, aiming to unite the country. That day, it camps at Dengakuhazama in Owari.
But this changes Yoshimoto's fate. Oda Nobunaga, with a force of only 2,000 men, launches a surprise attack on Imagawa's main camp. This is the battle known as Okehazama.
A young man watches from a nearby hill: Samanosuke Hidemitsu Akechi.
Rejecting invitations from warriors whose names will enter history, Samanosuke travels freely. He is the nephew of Mitsuhide Akechi, who will later rebel at Honnoji.
One year later...
At Inabayama Castle, the stronghold of Yoshitatsu Saito in Mino, soldiers and serving women are disappearing one after another in a series of strange incidents.
A letter from Yoshitatsu's frightened sister, Princess Yuki, brings Samanosuke rushing to Inabayama Castle.
Of course, he does not yet wear the Oni Gauntlet on his arm. His meeting with the Oni, and his battle against the Genma, begin immediately afterward.
Land a one-hit counterattack
Attack with precise timing just before an enemy's blow lands to unleash Issen. Slay a variety of Genma with a single strike and experience the essence of exhilarating swordplay.
Turn the tide with powerful special attacks
Escape danger with spectacular techniques. Spend Oni power to unleash powerful tactical attacks, using the different special moves of all three weapons to change the course of battle.
Recover and strengthen yourself with the souls of defeated Genma
The Oni Gauntlet can absorb and use the souls of defeated Genma. Put them toward strengthening weapons and items and restoring health to survive the fierce battles ahead.
Widescreen display and screen scrolling
Alongside the original 4:3 aspect ratio, the game supports 16:9 widescreen. You can switch between the two displays at any time in the game.
In widescreen mode, a screen-scrolling feature moves the view up and down with the player to show parts of the background that would otherwise be cut off.
Analog-stick controls
Alongside the original controls, which preserve the feel of the original release, a new option lets you move in the direction you tilt the analog stick.
This makes movement more intuitive, allows quicker changes of direction and enables more action-focused play.
Easy difficulty available from the start
Easy mode, which originally required specific conditions to unlock, is available immediately.
Whether you are returning to Onimusha after a long time or playing it for the first time, you can experience its world more readily.
