Become the protagonist, the Incompetent Detective, and unravel the mystery of the Quartering Duke case with your companions in the Detective Alliance. In the investigation simulation sections, command detectives with distinctive personalities, evade the Quartering Duke’s traps and lead the case toward a solution.

Story

The serial killer known as the Quartering Duke has claimed more than a hundred lives and plunged the country into chaos.

To stop these atrocities, the Detective Alliance, an organization made up exclusively of outstanding detectives, decides to conduct a joint investigation with its handpicked members.

Guided by the mysterious Senior Detective, an ordinary young man named Wato Hojo somehow finds himself taking part in the investigation. Working alongside the detectives he admires, he discovers a crucial fact: the Quartering Duke is hiding among their group of fourteen detectives.

Every character is a detective

Every character belongs to the Detective Alliance, an organization of first-rate detectives. Its many distinctive members include the protagonist, the Incompetent Detective; the armor-clad Armored Detective; the book-loving Literary Detective with an excellent memory; and the Occult Detective, an expert on the supernatural.

Key terms

Detective Alliance

A government-recognized detective organization consisting of one hundred detectives. It accepts requests from individuals, businesses, police and public authorities alike. A detective judged suitable for each request is dispatched, and the organization resolves an enormous number of cases every day.

When a case is solved, the detective responsible is paid a reward and the detective rankings change.

Detective rankings

These numbers indicate the standing of the detectives belonging to the Detective Alliance. Rankings are assigned according to each detective’s achievements, and higher-ranked detectives are given cases that are more difficult to solve.

The ranking system also aims to prevent the clashes of opinion that inevitably arise among a collection of strong-minded, individualistic detectives. If detectives disagree and their debate reaches a stalemate, the higher-ranked detective’s opinion must take precedence unless there is clear evidence to the contrary.

The Quartering Duke

A deranged killer who calls himself an “entertainer.” Beginning with a live broadcast of the horrific deaths of two men, he is said to have killed more than a hundred people in six months.

His distinctive pattern is to kill two people at the same time and leave the Quartering Duke’s icon in some form among the victims’ possessions. This series of crimes is known as the Quartering Duke case.

Morgue Island

The story takes place on a remote island in the open sea. Members of the Detective Alliance gather at its headquarters to hold a strategy meeting on how to deal with the Quartering Duke.

But the Quartering Duke, who has infiltrated the alliance, murders many detectives and headquarters staff. On this isolated island, cut off from all contact with the outside world, fourteen detectives remain alive.

Will the Detective Alliance survive or be wiped out? Its detectives must cooperate to uncover the Quartering Duke’s identity.

Adventure sections

The story advances through choices in the adventure sections. The detectives gathered at the headquarters on Morgue Island for a meeting about the Quartering Duke case, only for the unidentified killer to attack, devastate the headquarters and leave them isolated.

Speak with the detectives and investigate clues to the case.

Command the detectives to solve the mystery

In the investigation simulation sections, you control the detectives and guide the case toward a solution. However, your own representative, the Incompetent Detective, has no special skill.

The key is therefore to give precise instructions to detectives whose trust you have earned, so that they can advance the investigation on your behalf.

The detectives’ reasoning resonance

Each detective has statistics for movement, reasoning, verification, cooperation and investigation, and each excels in different areas. The Scientific Detective may be poor at moving but good at verification, while the Armored Detective may struggle with reasoning but excel at cooperation.

Investigating in ways that make the most of each detective’s particular strengths is essential to solving the case. Use their abilities to advance the investigation and reach a solution.
