PlayStation 4 Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake with Power Up Kit

A boundless Three Kingdoms experience

Created to mark the series' 40th anniversary, this Power Up Kit edition adds a variety of new elements to Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake, the series' first large-scale remake, originally released in 2024.

Gems, Turning Points and new scenarios

Gems let you obtain a variety of commands that differ according to your position: ruler, regional commander, governor, strategist, ordinary officer, leader of a vagrant army or free officer. Enjoy officer development that changes with each playthrough.

Opportunities rise as time passes and events such as disasters affect the realm. They can trigger Turning Points that completely change a force's circumstances or break a deadlock.

New traits and events, council and city commands, additional hypothetical scenarios, extensive in-game editing and Chinese voices provide a substantial expansion that lets you endlessly enjoy your own Three Kingdoms experience.

The expansion includes four hypothetical scenarios. Two further scenarios, Battle of the Two Yuans and The Final Battle: Four Lords Unite, were added through the February 13, 2026 title update, bringing the total to six after updating.

A thousand officers, endless drama

Romance of the Three Kingdoms VIII, in which every officer—including rulers—can become the protagonist of a story set in the Three Kingdoms, returns as a major remake more than 20 years later.

Additional elements bring the officers' humanity into focus. Destiny can dramatically change developments through the relationships between officers, while Tales allow you to choose from a wide variety of stories and outcomes. Battles have also been reborn with a faster pace and greater depth.

Visuals combining 2D and 3D techniques feel both familiar and new. Numerous officer portraits were drawn especially for this game, bringing a fresh feeling to play. With the greatest number of officers and scenarios in the series, its greatest officer drama unfolds here.

A Three Kingdoms world brought to life through new visuals and voices

The new visual style blends 2D and 3D. Rich graphics renew the presentation while preserving the atmosphere of Romance of the Three Kingdoms VIII.

The game also contains the largest amount of voiced dialogue in the series. Important events feature fully voiced animated movies, portraying the Three Kingdoms' best-known episodes in beautiful imagery.

Rebuilt battles

The battle system has been fundamentally rebuilt using modern technology and more than 20 years of historical-simulation experience accumulated since VIII. It preserves the original's appeal while greatly improving the pace and balance.

New features absent from the original, such as linked actions, make battles approachable while maintaining substantial tactical depth.

Battlefield maps have also been renewed through the game's distinctive blend of 2D and 3D. The battlefields use modern 3D graphics, while distant scenery is rendered in an ink-painting style, combining powerful battles with the feeling of fighting inside a historical tale.

PlayStation version compatibility

This PlayStation 4 edition does not support an upgrade to the PlayStation 5 edition.
