PlayStation 4 Samurai Warriors 4 Koei Tecmo the Best

Samurai Warriors celebrates its tenth anniversary with tactical action set in Japan's Sengoku era. Play as its warriors and sweep through opposing armies. Following the March 2014 PlayStation 3 and Vita release, the PlayStation 4 edition brings the dramatic story through the era's end into a more beautiful, immersive world.

PlayStation 4 improvements

Far more characters appear on the battlefield, intensifying clashes between allies and enemies. Clear crowds with powerful attacks and experience the exhilaration of fighting against overwhelming numbers.

Graphics improve character skin, costume details and effects. Lighting, atmosphere, depth and vegetation create a more convincing battlefield.

SHARE originally supported screenshots, video sharing and live broadcasts with viewer comments affecting play. Recovery commands produced healing items such as rice balls and Hannya-to; support commands strengthened attack or defence. Enemy-strengthening commands temporarily raised soldiers' attack, sometimes producing small scrolls when defeated. Enemy-defence commands raised their defence, sometimes yielding gold dust.

Cross-save supported PlayStation 3 and Vita progress. Previously purchased costumes, scenarios and edit parts could also be downloaded again without charge using the same PlayStation Network account.

Warriors and historical drama

Requested newcomers Nobuyuki Sanada and Yoshitsugu Otani join a cast exceeding 50 distinctive officers. Takatora Todo, Naotora Ii and Munenori Yagyu, introduced in Samurai Warriors: Chronicles 2nd, make their numbered-series debut. Returning heroes including Yukimura Sanada and Nobunaga Oda receive new designs and expanded actions.

Story Mode combines regional campaigns, including Kyushu and Shikoku, with the campaign for national unification through the Sengoku era's conclusion. Historically based battles unfold by faction, dramatising relationships, convictions, conflicts and intersecting ambitions.

Evolved combat

Hyper Attacks rapidly close distances and sweep through troops. They begin with Triangle and link Triangle/Square attacks, complementing regular Square-led attack chains. They are effective against soldiers but deflected by enemy officers, encouraging tactical variation.

A full Spirit Gauge enables Musou Rage with R3, strengthening attacks and providing special protection. A Musou Attack during Rage unleashes the ultimate finishing attack. Officers weakened and stunned under suitable conditions become vulnerable to powerful finishing moves.

Mount horses while moving for smoother travel. Charge attacks and Shadow Step gain new movements, while action types and character growth are renewed. Accessible controls support a broader range of exhilarating actions.

Chronicle Mode

Travel across Japan, complete local quests, meet officers and collect items. Expanded character creation lets you customise faces, hairstyles, body shape and armour, shaping your own Sengoku history. Images stored on the console can personalise attack lettering, crests and portraits.

Build an officer biography collection through encounters and friendship. Some officers unavailable in Story Mode can join you here. Battles and events appear at map locations, with characters varying through daytime, evening and night. Shops sell armour, travelling merchants offer special pieces and training goals influence encounters and friendship.

Switch between your custom warrior and a partner in battle. Prove your strength to enter new regions; special quests provide rare weapons. Conversations affect friendship, unlocking partners and their weapons. Free Mode lets you replay Story Mode battles with characters unlocked through progression.
