A twentieth-anniversary Trails adventure

The story-driven Trails RPG series has earned high praise for its carefully drawn characters and sweeping, serial-drama-like storytelling, with total sales exceeding 7.5 million copies at the time of this game's announcement.

In 2024, The Legend of Heroes: Kai no Kiseki arrived as the series' twentieth-anniversary title, known in English as Trails beyond the Horizon. The latest adventure weaves the future of the Zemurian continent.

Familiar heroes in a new story

A new story unfolds around characters from throughout the series: Van, the spriggan who starred in Trails through Daybreak; Kevin, a Gralsritter from Trails in the Sky; Rean, the swordmaster from Trails of Cold Steel; and Rufus from Trails into Reverie.

Freely switch between field action and command-based combat. New quests, story-linked dungeons and many forms of extensive optional content bring additional depth to the adventure.

Use spectacular Crafts and Arts in intense battles. New features include Awakening, which greatly increases your capabilities, and Dual Arts, a form of high-level magic, as you prepare to face enemy forces.

Agnès Claudel — voiced by Miku Ito

“So, Van... please don't regret caring about someone precious to you.”

A second-year student at the prestigious Aramis High School, Agnès combines an elegant, gentle appearance with a strong will.

After asking Van to search for the Genesis orbments inherited from her great-grandfather, she began working part-time at Arkride Solutions Office.

Although she has achieved her original aim of gathering the eight Genesis devices scattered throughout the Republic, she continues working at the office, staying close to Van, for whom she has quiet feelings.

Van Arkride — voiced by Daisuke Ono

“Run from yourself or face yourself—in the end, you're the one who has to decide.”

Van makes his living as a spriggan, helping people caught between the public world and the underworld. Perhaps because he has no family, he can seem dry and pragmatic, but he makes decisions according to his own code—though his favourite sweets may tempt him to bend it.

Born as a vessel for a demon lord, he carried a demonic core within him. After directly confronting the demon lord once it had separated from him, he succeeded in sealing that core between worlds.

Elaine Auclair — voiced by Chiwa Saito

“We cannot let Ouroboros have its way—whatever its intentions may be.”

An A-rank bracer known as Beauty's Blade, Elaine combines masterful swordsmanship with striking beauty. Born into the prestigious family behind the Quincy Company confectionery business, she defied her relatives' objections and became a bracer after graduating from high school.

Through the many incidents in the Republic, she and Van—her childhood friend and former school sweetheart—have gradually built a relationship in which they can approach each other while understanding their different positions.

As Project Startaker proceeds in the Republic, Elaine notices anti-immigration organisations beginning to move across Zemuria. She sets out to investigate as a bracer.

Kevin Graham — voiced by Kazuyuki Okitsu

“You understand, don't you? You're unquestionably an enemy of Zemuria—and an evil man.”

A travelling priest of the Septian Church, Kevin is the fifth Dominion of the Gralsritter, known as the Thousand-Hand Guardian. His friendly manner makes him seem easygoing, but he has a firm sense of duty and can make cold decisions during a mission.

Once calling himself the Heretic Hunter, he secretly punished criminals declared heretics by the Church. After confronting his own past through a certain incident, he and his squire Ries chose to use their strength to protect something.

This time, he appears to have received a mission from the Church and is seeking contact with Rufus, a man who has discarded his past...

Rean Schwarzer — voiced by Koki Uchiyama

“I shall face you—to see with my own eyes what lies beyond the Eight Leaves!”

A young instructor at Thors Military Academy in the Erebonian Empire, Rean once overcame the enormous forces of fate surrounding the Empire with the help of many companions and allies.

Having mastered the Eight Leaves One Blade school, a culmination of Eastern swordsmanship, he now bears the title Divine Blade of Ash.

For a certain reason, he has been invited to the former enemy nation of Calvard. He travels there to reunite with his Class VII companions. At the same time, a message arrives from his old master Yun Ka-fai, whom he has not seen for a long time...

Altina Orion — voiced by Inori Minase

“Rean—if your eye of insight is telling you so, I believe you should go there.”

Altina belongs to Thors Military Academy's Strategic Research Division and, following graduation, has also become a semi-affiliated member of the Epstein Foundation's Imperial branch. In battle, she uses Shield Caliber, next-generation weaponry formed by the transformation of her partner combat shell, Claiomh Solais.

Despite her unusual origins, she continues growing as an ordinary human being. She enters Calvard alongside Rean, her former instructor and now something of a colleague.

At the Foundation's request, she also takes charge of a certain matter and serves as its liaison.

Rufus Albarea — voiced by Daisuke Hirakawa

“I can do it without the slightest hesitation. After all, I am inhuman.”

Crossbell's former first governor-general comes from Erebonia's prestigious ducal House Albarea. Imprisoned as a war criminal after the world war, he acted as the masked knight C when an impostor claiming his name appeared during the renewed Crossbell crisis two and a half years earlier.

Meeting Swin, Nadia and Lapis gave him an opportunity to reconsider how he lived.

After the crisis, Rufus abandoned his past. Although watched by Calvard's CID, he continued working behind the scenes with Lapis and the others, keeping Zemuria's future in view.

Lapis Rosenberg — voiced by Azumi Waki

“Elegant and cute, isn't it? Rufus helped me choose it!”

Lapis is a management AI from the machine intelligence Elysium, inhabiting a Rosenberg-made orbal doll. She has human-like feelings, including a hearty appetite and a concern for cute names, while retaining overwhelming processing power as an administrative AI.

During the grotesque incidents in the Republic, her AI was overwritten with another personality and exploited. Thanks to Arkride Solutions Office, the Bracer Guild, Swin and their companions, she recovered her true personality.

She later travelled with Rufus to the autonomous state of Ored, where her AI was transferred into a new body combining Meister Jorg's craftsmanship with Marduk's technology.
