More than ten years after the series first entered service, UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH receives its first numbered sequel. This latest entry in the traditional 2D competitive action series combines a contemporary supernatural novel atmosphere with renewed character visuals and graphics, and a new story of the Hollow Night. The fighting series has also been selected as a main title at EVO.

New playable characters, new moves, a substantially updated battle system and improved networking create a fresh battle experience. Feel the intensity of high-definition battles rendered in detailed pixel art.

Every returning series character joins the fight, alongside three newcomers: Kaguya, Tsurugi and Kuon. The original roster offers 24 playable characters. Meticulous character balancing built up throughout the series brings a finely tuned competitive balance.

Hyde — voiced by Ryohei Kimura

A boy tossed about by coincidence upon coincidence. The protagonist is a high school student who meets the mysterious girl Linne and awakens to the power of EXS. After a hard-fought struggle, he defeats Paradox, regarded as the strongest wielder.

But he then suffers a crushing defeat at the hands of the overwhelmingly powerful Re-Birth, Kuon the Aeon. Kuon proclaims the world's destruction as the means to fulfill his ambition. Hearing this, Linne vanishes. Hyde resolves to face the battle alone, to save the world from this crisis...

Linne — voiced by Ayane Sakura

The girl of an unexpected encounter who appears before Hyde. The heroine is a girl of indeterminate age who recognizes Hyde's potential and succeeds in defeating Hilda.

She then attempts to carry out her original plan: erase the ominous sealing art engraved into her body. However, her brother Kuon the Aeon, who had disappeared, appears before her. She cannot simply go ahead and die alone. She will take her brother with her as she falls into the Night. To settle their long-standing conflict, she decides to go into battle alone.

Tsurugi — voiced by Haruki Ishiya

An impregnable wall: the guardian of steel. A school friend of Hyde, Tsurugi belongs to the student vigilante group EFG and is among its most capable members.

EFG's ideal is to protect students from the sinister influence of wielders, and its members usually try to stay out of the disturbances of the Night. But they cannot merely stand by during this final Night. To keep students out of danger, and above all to prevent the world's destruction, Tsurugi rises to defeat the source of all evil: the Re-Birth.

Kaguya — voiced by Mami Ozaki

The lady of twin guns dances beneath the moon. A member of Licht Kreis, Kaguya travels—or is sent—all around the world because of her ability.

Her next assignment takes her to Japan, where her close friend Orie is stationed. Learning that many other executors have also gathered there, Kaguya recognizes the gravity of her mission and renews her determination to protect the world that her dear friend inhabits...

Further evolved battles and networking

Beginners can perform spectacular actions simply by pressing the EXS button. The game conveys greater speed while retaining the responsive controls expected of a traditional 2D fighting game. Every character gains new moves, making this a fresh starting line for everyone.

The series introduces the long-awaited rollback netcode for comfortable online competition. A Casual Match option is also added, allowing anyone to enjoy online battles more freely.

Tutorial and missions

Learn the controls from the basics in the tutorial, so even newcomers can begin playing. Missions let you practice each character's tactics and combos, with plenty to master.
