Utawarerumono Aquaplus

Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception is a grand tale that takes players on an incredible journey. A beautiful visual novel story, intriguing characters, fast-paced tactical RPG combat and a world-class soundtrack make it an escape for adventure game fans.

Story

When I came to, I was standing in an unknown wilderness as snow drifted around me. I had no idea why I was there.

Worse still, my memories... I could not remember who I was, or even my own name. I stood dumbfounded by the situation.

As if mocking my confusion, an enormous insect-like monster suddenly attacked. I fled desperately, but it cornered me, leaving me in mortal danger.

Then a girl appeared, swiftly and confidently. Her name was Kuon.

The one who saved my life was a beautiful girl with animal-like ears and a tail.

An Aquaplus 20th anniversary title: an epic story woven through two parts

The story progresses by alternating between an adventure part and a tactical RPG part.

The setting moves from Tuskur to the great nation of Yamato, where an epic story unfolds around the new protagonist Haku and heroine Kuon.

Adventure

The scenario is larger than that of the previous game. Dialogue is fully voiced by an acclaimed cast, and a richly developed story is brought to life by a distinctive range of characters.

Tactical RPG battles

Battles move into 3D and become more strategic. Characters have elemental attributes and preferred methods of attack. The 3D characters were jointly developed with Flight Unit.

Haku — voiced by Keiji Fujiwara

The protagonist of this game. Kuon saved him after finding him collapsed and almost without clothing, and gave him his name.

He has lost most of his memories and is unsure even of who he is. This young man is neither particularly diligent nor earnest, but he is quick-witted and highly perceptive.

He lacks physical strength. His frailty worries Kuon, who fears he might die by the roadside if left to fend for himself.

Kuon — voiced by Risa Taneda

A beautiful, spirited girl who saved the protagonist and named him Haku. Her animal-like ears and tail are covered in glossy fur.

She is lively and intelligent, with a somewhat detached air. She works as an herbalist and, despite her youth, is skilled at her craft.

She apparently left her homeland to travel alone, seeing the world.

Rulutieh — voiced by Ai Kakuma

The youngest princess of Kujyuri, a vassal state of the great nation of Yamato. She is a delicate girl with a noble bearing who nevertheless seems timid.

She apparently travels to the imperial capital as an envoy delivering tribute. She keeps a Hororon bird named Cocopo as a pet.

Oshtor

The General of the Right Imperial Guard of the great nation of Yamato. He normally wears a mask, so his true face cannot be seen.

Accomplished in both scholarly and martial arts, upright and incorruptible, he is deeply trusted by the people and highly valued by the Emperor. His voice actor was left unidentified in the original product introduction.
