ReaL’s fourth single brings a new opening theme to Pokemon Sun & Moon. The emerging girls’ rock band has been gathering momentum: Kagerou occupied the top three positions on digital charts, related videos passed six million views, and a solo concert at the 3,000-capacity Osaka Castle Open Air Concert Hall was a major success.

The band has also attracted attention for a name that gives social-media users trouble: its stylized first letter is the Cyrillic Ya, which Japanese keyboards can produce by entering ya, Russian letters or Russia. The new song Mirai Connection was written for children by members who were already enthusiastic Pokemon fans. It became the opening theme for Pokemon Sun & Moon, broadcast on TV Tokyo on Thursdays at 6:55 p.m. at the time of release.

Vocalist and guitarist Ryoko, who composed the song, describes its emotions as stepping out of darkness towards light, the bonds between Pokemon and their Trainers, and the radiance of pursuing a dream with all one’s strength. The song is filled with that fresh, uncertain yet sparkling feeling.
