PYECUTS traces Soreyu's illustration work from early pieces to recent creations, with new artwork alongside the selection. Bright colours, distinctive characters and a retro sensibility draw on 1990s American comics, cartoons and teen magazines.
Making-of features explain the thinking and working stages behind newly drawn illustrations. An interview explores the artist's creative approach, and a sixteen-page section of new monochrome sketches presents the underlying linework on specially selected paper in a contrasting colour.
The book's design continues that visual play: its cover resembles a photograph of a physical American comic, while the back cover uses newly illustrated, package-like designs and paper textures to suggest photographed products. Brilliant Palette high-definition printing reproduces the artwork in a wide B5 format. This first Japanese-language collection and making-of book is published by Shoeisha and contains 192 pages.
