Gloomy first-year high-school student Aoba Suzuki is satisfied with school life, even though classmate Sannosuke occasionally beats him up under the guise of play fighting. One day, rising martial-arts superstar Kenshin rescues him. But Kenshin’s casual remark—“You’re empty inside”—gets under Aoba’s skin. Unable to forgive him, Aoba declares that he wants to land just one punch on Kenshin.

Through Sannosuke, Aoba joins Shark Gym, a struggling establishment run by Kanenari Toki, and enters the world of mixed martial arts. Under the guidance of coach Wataru Amachi, he aims for the top of MMA Koshien, the competition that determines the strongest high-school fighter.
