Rokuhodo Yotsuiro Biyori Live-Action Blu-ray Box
TV 実写 鹿楓堂よついろ日和 Blu-ray BOX
Starring Nozomu Kotaki of Johnny's WEST, as credited at the original release. Captivating men in kimono and superb food soothe their customers. This is the live-action Rokuhodo Yotsuiro Biyori Blu-ray Box, containing all ten episodes.
The enormously popular manga Rokuhodo Yotsuiro Biyori by Yu Shimizu, published under Shinchosha's Bunch Comics and also adapted into animation, becomes a live-action drama starring Nozomu Kotaki. Set in an old-house-style Japanese cafe in a corner of the city, it follows four young men who work there as they fill the hearts and stomachs of customers arriving with worries or loneliness.
Greeting customers at Rokuhodo are tea specialist Sui, the innocent leader whose timid, absent-minded side sometimes appears; cook Tokitaka, who loves enka and period dramas and has a grandfather's mature outlook; Tsubaki, the youngest, sharp-tongued sweets specialist, shy, prickly and determined not to lose; and coffee specialist Gure, half Italian and half Japanese, an often undressed mood-maker whose bizarre latte art confounds those around him. At times they welcome customers with exquisite meals and sweets; at others they run wild in their shared home. They argue over who brushes their teeth first, who leaves the kotatsu to fetch tissues, and pillow fights. Through contact with customers, the four also confront their own problems and grow. There is happiness in eating with someone: a delicious, gentle drama of comforting food temptation.
Nozomu Kotaki makes his first leading appearance in a TV Asahi serial drama, playing the dignified kimono-clad owner of Rokuhodo. Although a leader, he sometimes displays his timid, absent-minded side; watch for the sudden change in his character when he cuddles the cafe cat he adores.
Shono Hayama, Ryusei Onishi of Naniwa Danshi and Daichi Saeki join him as the richly individual men who work and share a home together. The four personalities' bustling shared-house scenes bring involuntary smiles and comfort. Their everyday lives—public baths, pillow fights, competing for the washbasin to brush their teeth, Valentine's Day, strength training and outings on days off—are also worth watching.
Ryusei Fujii of Johnny's WEST plays the protagonist's twin older brother, giving Kotaki and Fujii a remarkable joint appearance as twins. Jin Shirasu plays a mysterious, gifted pastry chef. What secret lies in the past of the twins whose lives diverge? Scenes of their high-school days in stand-collar uniforms are also a highlight.
Irresistible dishes and sweets appear one after another, enough to make your stomach rumble: soothing salmon-and-salmon-roe tea rice; rich matcha and shiratama parfait; crisp, fluffy chicken-tempura rice bowls; staff-meal winter-vegetable curry; rewarding Napolitan pasta; soft, melting pork-cutlet rice bowls; happy, fluffy pancakes; creamy Japanese-style omurice; melting braised pork belly; alluring Japanese-chestnut Mont Blanc; rich cheese gratin; tender mackerel simmered in miso; and luxurious fruit sandwiches filled with whipped cream. These tempting food scenes should not be missed.
A distinguished guest cast helps create warm human stories that bring laughter and tears. An office worker so busy that he forgets to eat, an elderly man who decides to close his business because he cannot resist the changing times, and a stern-looking sweets-loving man who is in love but lacks confidence: customers with worries, a little bruised by life, visit Rokuhodo. The warm interactions they weave with the four young men offer comfort.
This is the first live-action adaptation of Yu Shimizu's popular Rokuhodo Yotsuiro Biyori manga. A comforting food drama depicting warm human connections around a Japanese cafe is born. The theme song is Reimei by Johnny's WEST, a memorable song whose gently enveloping sense of distance perfectly suits the drama's world. Extensive bonus footage includes off-camera moments after a take is called and Kotaki's tearful comments at the end of filming.
'Welcome. Welcome to Rokuhodo.' Customers carrying small worries and loneliness they cannot tell anyone about receive a warm welcome from tea specialist and owner Sui, played by Nozomu Kotaki; cook Tokitaka, played by Shono Hayama; the youngest sweets specialist Tsubaki, played by Ryusei Onishi; and coffee specialist Gure, played by Daichi Saeki. The four share the cafe's second floor. They argue about toothbrushing order and who should get out of the kotatsu to fetch tissues, cuddle their pet cat Kinako, and live boisterously day after day.
One day, middle-school girl Kozuru Tenjin, played by Shima Tabata, comes to the cafe alone. She smiles with extraordinary happiness as she eats the warabimochi she ordered. Yet, for some reason, her expression clouds the moment she drinks Sui's tea. Unable to understand why, Sui speaks to her and decides to accompany her home while shopping for supplies. On arriving, he hears Takehiko Tenjin, played by Masato Ibu, shouting from inside. This is a delicious, gentle story of four warm-hearted young men quietly accompanying customers troubled and slightly hurt by life, filling their hearts and stomachs. Japanese cafe Rokuhodo is finally open.
