Roujin Z Soundtrack 30th Anniversary Reissue celebrates the science-fiction anime created by Katsuhiro Otomo, responsible for the original story, screenplay and mechanical designs, with original character designs by Hisashi Eguchi and direction by Hiroyuki Kitakubo.
Released in September 1991, the film won the animation-film prize at that year's Mainichi Film Awards and has retained a following in Japan and abroad. This edition marks its thirtieth anniversary by returning the out-of-print soundtrack in newly remastered, high-quality Blu-spec CD2 format.
Bun Itakura, known for leading distinctive bands including Chakra and Killing Time, composed the music. Industrial techno, ethnic influences and contemporary music meet in a score whose bold processing and editing give the soundtrack an appeal beyond the film itself. The ending theme is sung by his longtime Chakra collaborator Mishio Ogawa.
The booklet contains new interviews with Otomo, Eguchi, Kitakubo and Itakura.
