Rurouni Kenshin Movies

The Perfect Box brings together all five live-action Rurouni Kenshin films: Rurouni Kenshin, Kyoto Inferno, The Legend Ends, The Final and The Beginning. Extensive bonus footage accompanies the complete saga. Road To Kenshin makes its debut here in a complete version, adding previously unseen footage to an action documentary following ten years of demanding filmmaking.

Rurouni Kenshin: In the turmoil at the end of the Edo period, an assassin known as Hitokiri Battosai became a legend. Faster than any opponent and devastating against several enemies at once, he left no survivors when he drew his sword. With the fighting over and the Meiji era beginning, he disappeared. Ten years later, a wanderer named Kenshin Himura helps people with a reverse-blade sword that cannot kill. He is Battosai, now sworn never to take another life. His true struggle begins as he tries to build a peaceful world for the people he holds dear.

Kyoto Inferno: Kenshin enjoys a quiet life with Kaoru Kamiya and his friends until the new government asks him to defeat Makoto Shishio, the assassin who succeeded him. Betrayed and burned by the government, Shishio survived and built a fighting force in Kyoto with plans to conquer Japan. Kenshin thanks Kaoru and leaves despite her desperate objections. Facing an enemy once his equal in skill and intelligence, he must first fight Shishio’s subordinate Sojiro Seta, whose lightning-fast technique breaks his reverse-blade sword. Former Oniwabanshu leader Aoshi Shinomori also wants to defeat him and prove himself the strongest. Without his sword, can Kenshin overcome these enemies while keeping his vow? Kaoru and his friends rush to help, but an even more frightening conspiracy lies behind Shishio’s plan to burn Kyoto.

The Legend Ends: Kenshin confronts Shishio’s forces in Kyoto, while Shishio prepares to attack Tokyo aboard the armoured warship Rengoku. Diving into the sea to rescue the abducted Kaoru, Kenshin washes ashore alone and is found by his master, Seijuro Hiko. Knowing he cannot defeat Shishio as he is, Kenshin begs to learn his master’s ultimate technique. Meanwhile, Shishio learns that Kenshin survived and pressures the government to have him publicly beheaded for the assassinations he committed in the past. In his greatest crisis, can Kenshin defeat this ruthless enemy and reunite with the missing Kaoru?

The Final: After a desperate battle to stop Shishio’s attempt to overthrow Japan, Kenshin and his friends live peacefully at the Kamiya dojo. Sudden attacks strike central Tokyo one after another, placing them all in danger. The identity and purpose of the attacker are bound to Kenshin’s hidden past and the mystery of the cross-shaped scar that will never disappear.

The Beginning: Amid the upheaval of the late Edo period, Kenshin serves as an assassin under Kogoro Katsura, leader of the anti-shogunate Choshu faction. Feared as the merciless Battosai, he is seen killing by Tomoe Yukishiro, a young woman he has rescued. He keeps her close to prevent her from revealing his secret. Hiding with her in a rural village to escape the shogunate’s pursuers, he begins to question the justice of killing and discovers real happiness. Then Tomoe suddenly disappears. The truth behind his cross-shaped scar is finally revealed.
