PROJECT SCARD Animation

PROJECT SCARD began with drama CDs and expanded into character songs, streamed voice-cast programmes and events. Scar on the Praeter follows the story after that drama-CD series, bringing its world to television animation. This volume contains episodes 1–3, a cast commentary for episode 1 and a digest of the December 19, 2020 online advance-screening event.

Tokyo’s Akatsuki Special Ward was intended to become a new economic special zone. Administrative authority passed to the large corporation Sakishima Holdings, but rival companies plotted over privileges such as the district’s reduced taxation. The resulting Akatsuki Conflict erupted into widespread rioting. Local administration collapsed, Sakishima Holdings was dismantled, and the district became an unmanaged area beyond the reach of national authority.

Men known as the Scard protect the lawless city. Each bears a Divine Tattoo sealing the power of a raging divine beast, granting an individual special ability and a defence capable of neutralising attacks: bullets burst apart before reaching their bodies, and blades shatter. Using these powers, Helios protects the city, Artemis protects its organisation, and the Public Security Special Service protects order. These groups establish themselves as new forces within the ward.

Small-scale conflicts still continue every day, yet each person holds fast to a sense of justice. Difficulties confront all three groups, and they clash as they overcome them. The bonds between them gradually change from hatred and anger into trust. As long as they have friends, their youth continues; travelling the same road, they become a family and companions who can entrust their backs to one another. This is the story of their everyday lives amid upheaval.

The edition’s physical extras include a newly illustrated GoHands sleeve, a special digipak and five social-media-style illustration cards, subject to remaining stock.
