Princess Scarlet fails to avenge her father's murder and awakens in the Land of the Dead, a violent world where the weak and wounded can vanish into nothingness. Learning that her uncle Claudius, who killed her father and seized the throne, is also there, she renews her vow of revenge. Her journey changes when she meets Hijiri, a nurse from modern Japan whose refusal to fight challenges everything she believes. His care extends to enemies as well as friends, gradually reaching the heart she has sealed away.

Claudius promises the people a distant place they all long to reach, using that hope to consolidate his power. When he discovers Scarlet's pursuit, he sends assassins to erase her. Travelling with Hijiri toward the same destination, Scarlet must decide what kind of future can exist beyond vengeance.

Mamoru Hosoda writes and directs this animated fantasy, with character designs by Jin Kim and Tadahiro Uesugi and music by Taisei Iwasaki. Mana Ashida and Masaki Okada lead the voice cast, joined by Kazuhiro Yamaji, Tokio Emoto, Munetaka Aoki, Shota Sometani, Noa Shiroyama, Kayoko Shiraishi, Kotaro Yoshida, Yuki Saito, Yutaka Matsushige, Masachika Ichimura and Koji Yakusho. The standard-edition Blu-ray contains the 111-minute film and a character introduction leaflet. Audio options are Japanese Linear PCM 2.0 stereo, Japanese Dolby TrueHD 5.1 and a Japanese audio guide in Linear PCM 2.0 stereo, with accessible Japanese subtitles.
