Two mismatched high-school girls who seem to be complete opposites chat about nothing in particular at a food court. These relaxed, ordinary after-school hours are filled with irreplaceable moments of youth. The manga that became a talking point on social media for its delicate portrayal finally became an anime in July 2025.

Based on a manga about high-school girls simply talking, the story follows two girls who attend different schools and each spend their classroom time alone. Almost every day they meet in a shopping centre’s food court. They have no particular plans: they talk idly, laugh, cry and get angry. The series captures the feeling that an ordinary, easygoing after-school routine can become a precious part of youth.

The interplay between this mismatched pair brings a delicate, gentle world to life. Wada has the air of a refined young lady, but she is actually an ordinary high-school girl with vivid emotions who struggles with her studies. Yamamoto’s gyaru appearance makes her seem intimidating, yet she is hardworking and earnest. Wada’s classmate Saito is slightly mysterious, while Duke Abel is a popular, eccentric character in the mobile game Wada plays.

Wada seems difficult to approach, while Yamamoto’s appearance makes people around her wary. Though they go to different high schools, these two girls who each spend class time alone gather almost every day at the food court. They do not really do anything: they simply talk, laugh, cry and get angry. Would you like to take a small peek into their relaxed afternoons?

The release comes in a newly illustrated box with a special digipak. A special booklet includes newly drawn manga by the original creator, and a storyboard collection for the first episode is included.

Video extras include the creditless opening and ending, encore-broadcast endings, promotional videos and web previews. Food Court Backstage follows the performers through a day in Natori. The release also includes the first episode’s encore-broadcast audio commentary and the encore-broadcast version of the final episode.
