Shoplifters Regular Edition Blu-ray

Winner of the Palme d'Or, the highest award at the 71st Cannes Film Festival, Shoplifters is a profoundly moving work from Hirokazu Koreeda, a director who has continually explored family, now portraying bonds that reach beyond it. The award marked the first Japanese win since 1997, twenty-one years earlier. The film was also nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 76th Golden Globe Awards.

Lily Franky, Sakura Ando, Mayu Matsuoka and Kirin Kiki lead an exceptional cast, joined by Sosuke Ikematsu, Kengo Kora, Chizuru Ikewaki, Akira Emoto and Naoto Ogata. The central family can connect only through crime. Lily Franky plays the father who repeatedly shoplifts, Sakura Ando his wife, Mayu Matsuoka her younger sister and Kirin Kiki the grandmother. As they commit crimes together to survive, their bonds strengthen, yet those bonds are forbidden. In an age of increasingly fragile relationships, this startling and moving film asks what true connection means.

Osamu, Nobuyo, their son Shota and Nobuyo's younger sister Aki live in a dilapidated single-story house stranded between towering apartment blocks. They depend on the pension of its owner, Hatsue, and shoplift whatever daily necessities they lack. Living at the bottom of society, they nevertheless share constant laughter and an affectionate life despite their sharp words.

One winter day, Osamu cannot bear to leave a little girl shivering in the corridor of a nearby apartment complex and brings her home. Seeing the injuries covering her body, Nobuyo decides to raise her as a daughter. An incident eventually tears the family apart, and their secrets and deepest wishes are revealed one after another.

Bonus features include a trailer collection and an audio commentary with Lily Franky, Sakura Ando and director Hirokazu Koreeda.
