Space Battleship Yamato Animation

The national science-fiction anime Space Battleship Yamato returns through reconstruction and a new interpretation, bringing together the elements of the 1979 television special A New Journey and the works that followed it. Continuing from 2202, the story builds a grand cosmic epic around Yamato's next generation of crew members and interstellar war on a galactic scale. New characters, original settings and new battleships bring a fresh wind to the story as Yamato presses onward to protect humanity's future.

And still you tell us to live? In an age of uncertainty and sorrow, Yamato flies once more, into a new universe beyond imagination. Three years have passed since the battle against the White Comet Empire. President Dessler continues his search for a new home world to save the Gamilas people from extinction. In one corner of the Milky Way, he finds a suitable planet, but it lies within the territory of a powerful interstellar nation.

It is 2205. Searching for a new home for the Gamilas people, Dessler reaches a planet called Galman. On Earth, the 65th Escort Squadron is formed with the space battleship Yamato as its flagship. Among the young crew members occupied with training before departure is Ryusuke Domon, a young man who regards Yamato with a stern gaze.

Domon has secured his assignment to Yamato through dishonest means. On the day the 65th Escort Squadron departs, the ship begins to move under the hands of its new crew. In the engine room is Tasuke Tokugawa, the son of the former chief engineer, while Domon takes the helm. Susumu Kodai, now Yamato's captain, entrusts the ship to him to test his resolve.

Countless black spears, the Dezarium Hammers, suddenly pierce Gamilas and accelerate the melting of its planetary core. The planet begins to collapse, its ground splitting as the people left behind are swallowed by magma. Despite Dessler's determination to save as many of his people as possible, the final moment of Gamilas is approaching.

The Dezarium fleet attacks. Isolated but still fighting, Dessler's fleet struggles to protect the refugees who have escaped into the seas of Iscandar. Fearing the spread of the conflict, Earth's government forbids Yamato from intervening and orders it home. Domon and the other young crew members cannot accept the adults' response and plan a rebellion.

Video bonuses and audio commentaries accompany the story. The included special record book presents explanations of the work, introductions to its characters and mechanics, and new interviews. The jacket features newly drawn artwork.
