Space Battleship Yamato Animation

In an age of uncertainty and sorrow, Yamato flies once more, into a new universe beyond imagination. Space Battleship Yamato 2205: A New Journey revives the celebrated Space Battleship Yamato: A New Journey, broadcast as a television feature in 1979, as a completely new series. The collection also includes The Era of Space Battleship Yamato: The Choice in 2202, which reconstructs Yamato's history with footage from the 2199 and 2202 series and newly created scenes.

It is 2205. Searching for a new home for the Gamilas people, Dessler reaches a planet called Galman. On Earth, the 65th Escort Squadron is formed with the space battleship Yamato as its flagship. Among the young crew members occupied with training before departure is Ryusuke Domon, a young man who regards Yamato with a stern gaze.

Domon has secured his assignment to Yamato through dishonest means. On the day the 65th Escort Squadron departs, the ship begins to move under the hands of its new crew. In the engine room is Tasuke Tokugawa, the son of the former chief engineer, while Domon takes the helm. Susumu Kodai, now Yamato's captain, entrusts the ship to him to test his resolve.

Countless black spears, the Dezarium Hammers, suddenly pierce Gamilas and accelerate the melting of its planetary core. The planet begins to collapse, its ground splitting as the people left behind are swallowed by magma. Despite Dessler's determination to save as many of his people as possible, the final moment of Gamilas is approaching.

The Dezarium fleet attacks. Isolated but still fighting, Dessler's fleet struggles to protect the refugees who have escaped into the seas of Iscandar. Fearing the spread of the conflict, Earth's government forbids Yamato from intervening and orders it home. Domon and the other young crew members cannot accept the adults' response and plan a rebellion.

Yamato and its two companion ships join Dessler's fleet. To warp Iscandar again, Dezarium targets the planet Galmario as an energy resource. Kodai resolves to destroy the planet with the Wave Motion Gun to thwart the operation.

Powerless before the automated planet Goruba, the Earth and Gamilas fleets decide to give priority to rescuing everyone on Iscandar. Burdened by guilt over his use of the Wave Motion Gun, Kodai refuses to persuade Starsha. Dessler responds with words of contempt.

Starsha invites Kodai and Dessler into Sanctel, the sanctuary beneath Iscandar. In the great memory repository that stores the planet's elements, Kodai is reunited with his late brother Mamoru. The truth of Iscandar's salvation, and the truth of Gamilas, are revealed.

Moved by love, Dessler urges Kodai to fire the Wave Motion Gun and strike back at Goruba. As Kodai attempts to accept that reality, Domon's youthful passion moves his heart. Everyone must be saved. To carry out Domon's plan, Kodai and his companions hurry to Starsha.

The Era of Space Battleship Yamato: The Choice in 2202 reconstructs the complete record of battles written into human and cosmic history, centring on Space Battleship Yamato 2202: Warriors of Love. Its account spans humanity's exploration of space beginning with the Apollo Moon landing in 1969, the great voyage to Iscandar in 2199 and the Gatlantis campaign in 2202, rebuilt with newly created scenes and newly recorded narration.

The release preserves the video and audio bonuses from the earlier individual Blu-ray and DVD releases. It adds the first home-video presentation of theatrical stage greetings, Yamatalk events and promotional meetings. A special record book accompanies a newly illustrated three-sided storage box and special inner jackets.
