The Anthem of the Heart 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Standard Edition

A story told alongside beloved songs, moving Japan once more. In 2013, Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day – The Movie became a major hit that moved audiences far beyond anime fans, earning over one billion yen at the box office. The original release introduction described its second-place record among films based on original television anime, the announcement of a live-action television adaptation, and an Anohana phenomenon sweeping Japan.

Emotional wounds, inner conflict and the aching feeling of caring for someone: its story of the bonds between people, together with familiar classics such as the Pathétique, Over the Rainbow and Around the World, will fill your heart with emotion. This 2024 release presents the film in 4K HDR using the latest technology.

As a small child, Jun Naruse casually said something that caused her family to fall apart. An egg fairy suddenly appeared, sealed away her speech so that she would never hurt anyone again, and placed a curse on her that makes her stomach ache whenever she speaks. Traumatised, Jun closed off her heart, leaving mobile messages as her only means of communication.

Now in her second year of high school, Jun is appointed by her homeroom teacher to the organising committee for a community exchange gathering. Joining her are three classmates with whom she has no connection: Takumi Sakagami, an unmotivated boy who never says what he truly feels; Daiki Tasaki, a former baseball ace whose hopes of reaching Koshien were dashed by an elbow injury; and Natsuki Nito, a model student in the cheerleading club who is troubled by love. Each of them carries wounds of their own.

The honest feelings trapped inside their hearts are really crying out to be heard. At their teacher's prompting, the class decides to put on a musical for the gathering, though no one seems enthusiastic. Only Takumi notices Jun's feelings and asks whether she might want to sing, but Jun cannot bring herself to say so. The group begins arguing that a girl who never speaks could not possibly perform in a musical. Seeing the conflict caused by her, Jun suddenly blurts out, I will sing!

Then the day of the performance arrives. Jun had decided to sing the true feelings she had wanted to convey, the feelings she had kept locked inside her heart, but…

Theme song: Ima, Hanashitai Dareka ga Iru by Nogizaka 46.
