The Bullet Train (1975) Negative-Scan Remaster Standard Edition Blu-ray

At 9:48 a.m., Hikari 109 leaves platform 19 at Tokyo Station for Hakata with approximately 1,500 passengers aboard. Near Sagamihara, the railway authorities receive a call announcing that a bomb has been planted on the train. Its special mechanism will detonate if the speed drops to 80 kilometers per hour or below. Unable to stop, the train faces a journey of more than 1,100 kilometers while the authorities search for a way to save everyone aboard.

Ken Takakura plays Okita, the bomber whose carefully calculated plan demands a five-million-dollar ransom. As investigators attempt to outmaneuver him and railway controllers struggle to keep the route clear, the criminals, police, railway employees and trapped passengers confront an emergency unfolding under the eyes of the nation. Directed by Junya Sato, this 1975 Japanese thriller combines the relentless movement of the train with the personal pressures on those trying to control its fate.

The ensemble includes Ken Takakura, Shinichi Chiba, Kei Yamamoto, Akira Oda, Raita Ryu, Kunie Tanaka, Eiji Go, Tamio Kawachi, Masayo Utsunomiya, Yumiko Fujita, Hiroko Fuji, Junko Matsudaira, Yumi Takigawa, Etsuko Shihomi, Takashi Shimura, Akira Yamanouchi, Fumio Watanabe, Tomoo Nagai, Mizuho Suzuki, Tetsuro Tamba and Ken Utsui. Ryunosuke Ono and Junya Sato wrote the screenplay, with music by Hachiro Aoyama.

This standard-edition Blu-ray presents the 152-minute film in a 2K remaster made from a 4K scan of the negative, with a 1080p widescreen image and Japanese Linear PCM mono audio. Supplements include the teaser and theatrical trailer. No subtitles are included.
