The Dangers in My Heart Animation

The Dangers in My Heart brings a sweet, bittersweet and unexpectedly funny first-love story to television animation. Norio Sakurai’s romantic comedy passed three million copies in circulation, ranked in the men’s category of Kono Manga ga Sugoi! for two consecutive years and won the web-manga category of the Next Manga Awards in 2020. Its moments of overwhelming affection and humor have drawn readers into a story that resonates with adults as well as younger audiences. The television anime began in April 2023.

Kyotaro Ichikawa is a boy immersed in dramatic adolescent fantasies who enjoys macabre books about murder. He keeps glancing at his beautiful classmate Anna Yamada while imagining unsettling scenarios. One day, she arrives in his sanctuary, the school library. Thinking she is alone, Anna freely enjoys her rice balls and hums to herself. Her unpredictable behavior gradually makes it impossible for Ichikawa to look away.

Volume 1 contains episodes 1–4, the creditless opening and ending, and the pre-broadcast special stage We Came to AnimeJapan!, held on March 26, 2023. The stage brings together Shun Horie, Hina Yomiya, Ayaka Asai, Megumi Han and Atsumi Tanezaki, with Seitaro Mukai of Tenshin as host. Audio commentary features Horie, who plays Kyotaro Ichikawa, and Yomiya, who plays Anna Yamada. The series’ themes are Yorushika’s Setting Sun and Kohana Lam’s A Few Sentimental Centimeters.

Announced first-press extras include a newly illustrated sleeve and digipak, and a special booklet with newly drawn pages by original creator Norio Sakurai. These extras are available only while supplies last and are not guaranteed.
