The Keeper of the Camphor Tree Blu-ray Standard Edition

After an unjust dismissal costs him his job, Reito Naoi makes a desperate mistake and is arrested. Without plans for the future or much willingness to shape his own life, he accepts an unexpected offer: a lawyer will secure his release if he follows a client's instructions. The client is Chifune Yanagisawa, his late mother's half-sister and an influential figure in the Yanagisawa business group. Her order is simple but bewildering: he must become the keeper of the camphor tree at Tsukisato Shrine.

The tree is said to grant the wishes of those who pray to it. As Reito begins his duties, he meets Toshiaki Saji, a regular visitor; Saji's daughter Yumi, a university student suspicious of her father's behavior; and Soki Oba, who is struggling with the prospect of inheriting his family's business. Through them and Chifune, Reito's world gradually gains color. Yet he still does not understand the tree's true power, a mystery that will draw his own life into an unexpected revelation about the feelings people entrust to it.

Keigo Higashino's novel receives his first animated adaptation under director Tomohiko Ito, with a screenplay by Taku Kishimoto and music by Yugo Kanno. Tsubasa Yamaguchi and Akiko Itagaki shape the characters, while Hiroshi Takiguchi's background art surrounds them. A-1 Pictures and Psyde Kick Studio produce the animation, and Uru performs the theme song.

Fumiya Takahashi voices Reito, with Yuki Amami as Chifune, Takao Osawa as Toshiaki, Asuka Saito as Yumi and Ryubi Miyase as Soki. Saito and Miyase were selected through auditions for their first Japanese theatrical-animation voice roles. This standard edition contains the 113-minute feature on a single Blu-ray with Japanese Linear PCM audio and no subtitles.
