The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim 4K UHD + Blu-ray Set with Art Cards

Discover the untold story set two hundred years before The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. The fate of Middle-earth rests with the young princess Hera in an animated adventure directed by Kenji Kamiyama, known for Eden of the East, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit.

Drawing on a brief account in the appendices to J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, trilogy screenwriter Philippa Boyens developed the story with Kamiyama. Peter Jackson returns as executive producer, joined by creators from the original films. Japanese animation brings this large-scale fantasy to life, with familiar connections including Saruman, the Ring and the orcs.

History will become legend. Two centuries before the original trilogy, Rohan’s people live under the protection of King Helm Hammerhand. But the kingdom is threatened by the vengeful Dunlending lord Wulf, and a sudden assault begins to tear the beautiful land apart. Hera must confront a final stand at the Hornburg, the fortress later known as Helm’s Deep, against an enemy determined to destroy Rohan.

Wulf is also the childhood friend who once loved Hera. As the young princess bears a destiny to save her people, her dramatic journey recalls the burden carried by Frodo. Great Eagles soar, Mumakil rampage, orcs appear and a mysterious figure gathers golden rings, while Saruman the White enters the story. Battles featuring two hundred horses add to the scale of this struggle for the future of the realm. Can Hera preserve the proud kingdom of riders and its people?

This set includes the film on Ultra HD Blu-ray and Blu-ray, accompanied by art cards. The supplementary features explore the newly developed story, the animated creation of Middle-earth, and Hera herself. An Ultra HD Blu-ray compatible player is required for the 4K disc.
