The Rose of Versailles Anime

Raised as a son to inherit her military family's position, Oscar Francois de Jarjayes moves through the splendour of late-eighteenth-century Versailles in a man's uniform. There she meets Marie Antoinette, the proud and graceful Austrian princess who becomes France's queen; Andre Grandier, Oscar's common-born attendant and childhood friend; and the handsome, intelligent Swedish count Hans Axel von Fersen. Their lives intertwine as personal loyalties, love and the upheavals of their age shape the destinies they struggle to choose for themselves.

This animated adaptation of Riyoko Ikeda's The Rose of Versailles is directed by Ai Yoshimura, with Miyuki Sawashiro as Oscar, Aya Hirano as Marie Antoinette, Toshiyuki Toyonaga as Andre and Kazuki Kato as Fersen. The standard Blu-ray contains the 113-minute feature and the short Berubara Mini!, in which miniature versions of Oscar and her companions cause comic chaos at a present-day cinema. Japanese original audio is available in Linear PCM stereo and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, alongside a Japanese PCM stereo audio-description track and Japanese accessible subtitles.
