The Royal Family Blu-ray Box

A disillusioned tax accountant is sent to investigate a failing horse-racing business and finds a reason to begin again. Eiji Kurisu once hoped to work alongside his father, but a professional setback has left him questioning his future. Royal Human commissions him to assess the racing division built by its outspoken founder, Kozo Sanno, while Sanno's son Yutaro hopes the report will justify closing it down.

In Hokkaido, Kurisu witnesses Sanno lose a prized young horse at auction to his rival Yoshihiro Shiina. He also unexpectedly reunites with his former partner Kanako Nozaki, now working on her family's breeding farm. Learning what is at stake for the horses and the people who care for them challenges the conclusions of his report and draws him into a pursuit that will span twenty years.

Satoshi Tsumabuki leads the adaptation of Kazumasa Hayami's award-winning novel, with Koichi Sato, Ren Meguro, Wakana Matsumoto, Kazuki Sawamura, Hitomi Kuroki and Kotaro Koizumi. Direction by Ayuko Tsukahara and Ryosuke Matsuda, location filming with the Japan Racing Association's cooperation, and Koji Tamaki's theme song "Fanfare" support a story of ambition, family and shared responsibility.

All ten episodes are included across three main discs, totaling 497 minutes, with Japanese Linear PCM stereo and Japanese accessibility subtitles for the main programme. A fourth disc contains 124 minutes of extras: the pre-broadcast highlights special, outtakes, individual interviews with Tsumabuki, Sato, Meguro and Matsumoto, paired and three-person interviews, Hokkaido horse-farm production footage, cast wrap-up footage and promotional spots. Episode 7 has commentary by Tsumabuki, Matsumoto and Tsukahara. A booklet accompanies the set.
