With over four million copies in circulation, the original series is serialized on Young Ace UP. It became a talking point on social media, particularly among Generation Z, and ranked in numerous awards, including first place in the men's category of Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2023. The curtain now rises on a story of youth and horror, descending into an unknown “something.”

Yoshiki Tsujinaka is a high-school student who accepts that his childhood friend Hikaru has been replaced by “something,” and continues sharing everyday life with him despite his inner conflict. Hikaru disappeared in a forbidden mountain area six months earlier; the thing that returned has his voice and appearance, yet is not him. Yoshiki's classmate Asako Yamagishi has been able to hear things ordinary people cannot since childhood. Housewife Rie Kurebayashi can see things that remain invisible to others.

Yoshiki and Hikaru are the same age and have grown up together in a small rural community. The blazing sun, the cries of large brown cicadas that linger in their ears, ice cream eaten on the way home: one summer day, as they laugh over trivial things just as always, Yoshiki says, “You're not Hikaru after all, are you?”

Six months ago, Hikaru disappeared in the mountains and wandered back a week later. The thing looks and sounds like Hikaru, but what was stirring inside it? “Hikaru isn't here anymore... if that's how it is...” Yoshiki begins another seemingly ordinary day alongside the “something” wearing his friend's form. At the same time, strange incidents begin to strike the community. A coming-of-age horror story about falling into an unknown “something” begins.
