The White Snake Enchantress 4K Restoration Blu-ray

The starting point of Japan as an animation powerhouse! The White Snake Enchantress made a lasting mark on animation history as Japan's first feature-length colour animated film. This Blu-ray uses a 4K master that restores the film's original appearance as faithfully as possible.

Based on an ancient Chinese legend, the film tells the beautiful love story of Pai Nyan, the incarnation of a white snake, and her beloved Shu Sen. The blue-fish spirit Shao Ching, Shu Sen's friends Panda and the red panda Mimi, and the high priest Fa Hai, who tries to separate the lovers, join this lavish epic told through beautiful music and rich colour.

The Blu-ray contains the feature film, a trailer and a restoration demonstration. Hisaya Morishige and Mariko Miyagi provide the voices.

The 4K master was scanned from a 35 mm negative. This digital restoration was carried out in 2018 using the original 35 mm negative as its source. Surviving animation cels and other related materials were consulted to reproduce the colours seen at the time of the original release as closely as possible. Restoration was undertaken by Toei Company, Toei Animation and the National Film Archive of Japan. Digital restoration was carried out by Toei Lab Tech and the Toei Digital Center.
