Tokyo at Night presents thirty watercolor scenes painted specifically for Mateusz Urbanowicz's second artbook. Skyscrapers, neon-lit alleys, rain-wet streets, bridges and trains portray Tokyo after dark, with traces of everyday life in places devoid of people.
Inspired by an earlier ten-picture online series, the book uses newly painted scenes rather than reprinting those originals. Short texts accompany the paintings, followed by a making-of feature and a conversation with filmmaker Makoto Shinkai about how each sees Tokyo and represents the city in his work.
Published by MdN Corporation, this 160-page paperback includes Japanese and English text.
