Tonkatsu DJ Agetaro Deluxe Edition Blu-ray

The popular comic that also inspired a television anime becomes a live-action film starring Takumi Kitamura! With a powerful playlist throughout, this new entertainment experience gets you moving, lifts your spirits and leaves you doubled over with laughter.

The original is the legendary comedy manga by I-Pyao and Yujiro Koyama, published by Shueisha. It became a hit through its serialization on the Shonen Jump+ web-comic platform before appearing in collected volumes and as a television anime. Takumi Kitamura, acclaimed for his sensitive acting, plays Agetaro, the heir to a long-established tonkatsu restaurant who is inspired by a chance visit to a club and decides to become a tonkatsu DJ. This marks both his first solo starring film and his first comedy challenge.

Maika Yamamoto plays Sonoko, the girl Agetaro admires, while Kentaro Ito plays his rival, charismatic DJ Yashiki. These fresh faces are joined by accomplished performers including Yusuke Iseya as Agetaro's mentor DJ Oily and Brother Tom as his strict father. Familiar hits by Bruno Mars, who provides the theme song, Maroon 5, The Chemical Brothers, Belinda Carlisle and The Jackson Sisters bring color to the story throughout. Director Ken Ninomiya previously captured the headlong lives of young people in Chiwawa.

Agetaro is the unpromising third-generation heir to a tonkatsu restaurant. He wants to become a tonkatsu DJ, a man who can lift both pork cutlets and the dance floor, all to win the heart of Sonoko, with whom he has fallen in love at first sight. Yet he has never handled pork or DJ equipment. He apprentices himself to the irresponsible DJ Oily and appoints the hugely popular DJ Yashiki his rival without asking. For the carefree Agetaro, the road is a series of disasters fueled first by momentum, second by misunderstandings and third by fateful encounters. Can he reach the top as a tonkatsu DJ?
