Touken Ranbu Cinema Kabuki Blu-ray and CD

Touken Ranbu's first kabuki adaptation comes to the screen. In Touken Ranbu ONLINE, players known as saniwa develop sword warriors, the tsukumogami spirits of blades, and fight the History Retrograde Army that seeks to alter the past. The popular game has won many fans and expanded into anime, theater and film while preserving its distinctive world, becoming one of Japan's celebrated properties. Its new kabuki production opened at Tokyo's Shinbashi Enbujo in July 2023 to great acclaim. Classical kabuki techniques, including actors' double roles and gidayu narration, meet fresh direction and captivating music centered on the koto. The production explores the Eiroku Incident, in which Shogun Ashikaga Yoshiteru was assassinated, through immersive Cinema Kabuki images and sound.

In 2205, reports arrive that the History Retrograde Army has moved to change the late Muromachi period. The saniwa summons six sword warriors: Mikazuki Munechika, Kogarasumaru, Higekiri, Hizamaru, Doudanuki Masakuni and Kogitsunemaru. They are sent to the Eiroku years,1558–1570. Mikazuki hesitates, since Yoshiteru is said to have been his first master or to have treasured him as a favorite blade. Arriving in that era, the warriors become entangled with Yoshiteru, Princess Kobai, Matsunaga Danjo and his son Hisanao as they fight to preserve history.

Matsuya Onoe plays Mikazuki, Ukon Onoe plays Kogitsunemaru and Yoshiteru, Takanosuke Nakamura plays Doudanuki and Matsunaga Yamato-no-suke Hisanao, and Kangyoku Nakamura plays Higekiri and Yoshiteru's sister Princess Kobai.
