UFO Robo Grendizer Blu-ray Box Vol. 2

Daisuke Umon has built a peaceful life at Shirakaba Ranch, hiding the truth that he is Duke Fleed, a prince who escaped his devastated home planet aboard Grendizer. When the Vega allied forces launch an invasion from their Skull Moon base on the far side of the Moon, he must confront that past and fight again. Koji Kabuto, his sister Maria and their companions support him against Vega's attackers, but a reunion with his childhood friend Naida and a confrontation with his mother's killer make the path to victory intensely personal.

Created by Go Nagai and Dynamic Planning, UFO Robo Grendizer shares the world of Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger. Its robot combines with the UFO Spazer, a design developed from Gattiger in Uchu Enban Daisenso, while that film's dramatic approach also informs Duke Fleed's conflicted character. Koji, Hikaru Makiba and Grace Maria Fleed join the Spazer team to fight beside Grendizer. Character artwork by Kazuo Komatsubara, Shingo Araki and Michi Himeno supports the series' dramatic storytelling.

This negative-scan HD remaster contains the concluding 37 episodes, numbered 38-74, across five Blu-ray discs. Disc 6 contains episodes 38-45, Disc 7 episodes 46-53, Disc 8 episodes 54-61, Disc 9 episodes 62-69, and Disc 10 episodes 70-74 plus the video extras. The programme is presented in its original 4:3 framing with Japanese Linear PCM mono audio and no subtitles.

The extras comprise the new-series preview, a clean opening sequence, a separate title-free clean opening, a clean ending sequence and the pilot. A booklet and a jacket illustrated by Kazuhiro Ochi accompany the discs.

The voice cast includes Kei Tomiyama, Hiroya Ishimaru, Chiyoko Kawashima, Rihoko Yoshida, Joji Yanami, Kosei Tomita, Kazuko Sawada and Takashi Tanaka. The production features scripts by Shozo Uehara, direction by Tomoharu Katsumata, music by Shunsuke Kikuchi and art settings by Tadanao Tsuji and Iwamitsu Ito. Produced by Toei and Asahi Tsushinsha, the series originally aired from October 1975 to February 1977.
