Undead Lovers Blu-ray

When my feelings reach you, you disappear. Yet I still fall in love, again and again.

Daigo Matsui’s 2022 film Just Remembering became a major hit as its bittersweet portrait of a relationship struck a chord with audiences. His distinctive depictions of youth have earned overwhelming support from young viewers. His latest film, Undead Lovers, is a heartfelt love story he nurtured for more than ten years.

It is based on Yuna Takagi’s manga of the same name. Takagi made her debut as a manga artist after working as an assistant to Attack on Titan creator Hajime Isayama. A romance film for a new generation is born, moving viewers through the pure energy of vulnerability and the importance of saying “I love you” directly, even when it feels awkward.

They meet again and again as if by fate, and she keeps expressing her feelings: “I love you so much!” Rino Hasebe met her “destined partner,” Jun Kono, as a small child and has never forgotten him. At middle school, she finally meets him again. She repeatedly tells the younger track athlete that she loves him, until at last her feelings are returned. At that instant, he disappears.

No one remembers Jun, as though he had never existed. Yet he appears before Rino again and again as different people: an older member of her high-school light-music club, a man in a wheelchair, and the owner of the place where she works part-time. Each time, she falls in love and throws everything into expressing her feelings. What miraculous ending will Rino’s unwavering love bring about?
