URBANGARDE VIDEOSICK 15th Anniversary All-Time Best Blu-ray

Celebrating fifteen years since their debut! URBANGARDE, the “trauma techno-pop” band born in twenty-first-century Tokyo, presents an all-time best collection of its visual work.

The band made its major-label debut through Universal in 2011 and had released six albums by 2013. After moving through Tokuma and FABTONE, it had released sixteen albums by 2021. Its unique sound combines frenzied electronic tones, rich ensemble playing and explosive female and male twin vocals: pathologically pop and painfully girlish. Lyrics filled with affection and encouragement for minorities, including virgins, otaku and subculture communities, resonate with the pathologies of contemporary Japan and have attracted a passionate following, especially online.

The band entered its fifteenth-anniversary year in April 2022 and held an anniversary performance at Nakano Sunplaza in March 2023. In the lead-up to that show, an all-time best CD selected by the members and retracing the band’s journey was released on January 25, 2023.

Yet the world they create extends beyond sound. Only when the visual and aural come together does it rise from sickness into ecstasy. Bringing their video works together, this release makes fifteen years of URBANGARDE visible.
