Wakakusa Monogatari - Koisuru Shimai to Koisenu Watashi reimagines the four sisters of Louisa May Alcott's Little Women in contemporary Japan. At its centre is an aspiring screenwriter who wants neither romance nor marriage: her ideal future is to live with her sisters for the rest of her life. The people around her, however, have very different ideas about love and happiness.

The earnest eldest sister hopes to marry a boyfriend whose behaviour is emotionally abusive. The youngest becomes entangled with a man carrying complications of his own, while the gentle third sister holds a secret she cannot share with the others. Their romantically impulsive mother, a celebrated writer of love stories and a childhood friend in love with the second sister add further challenges to a household already pulling in several directions.

Rather than assuming that romance supplies everyone's happy ending, this sisterhood comedy asks whether a fulfilling life needs it at all. The serious eldest, determined second, easygoing third and shrewd youngest each pursue their own answer, confronting expectations about relationships and the futures women are supposed to choose.

Mayu Hotta, Sawa Nimura, Mei Hata and Neru Nagahama lead an ensemble that also includes Hayate Ichinose, Ryusei Fukada, Katsuhisa Namase, Wakana Sakai, Asami Usuda, Daichi Watanabe, Maki Sakai and Mariko Tsutsui. The six-disc Blu-ray box contains approximately 500 minutes of the series on five discs, with a separate making-of disc and an accompanying booklet.

The programme is presented in 16:9 1080i with Japanese Linear PCM 2.0 stereo. Japanese subtitles for the hearing impaired are included on the main programme only. The Blu-rays are region-free.
