The hugely popular drama What Did You Eat Yesterday? comes to home video in its long-awaited theatrical version. Keep this delicious everyday life with you on Blu-ray.
Shiro Kakei, known as Shiro-san and played by Hidetoshi Nishijima, is a lawyer working at a small law firm in town. His partner Kenji Yabuki, known as Kenji and played by Masaaki Uchino, is a hairdresser. One day, they decide to take a trip to Kyoto as a present for Kenji's birthday. But that journey leaves the two unable to reveal what is truly in their hearts to one another.
Then, while walking through the shopping street after working late, Shiro happens to see Kenji walking with an unfamiliar, handsome young man, played by Hokuto Matsumura. At the same time, Kohinata, played by Koji Yamamoto, asks him for advice after Wataru, played by Hayato Isomura, disappears. A story begins that will shake the future lives of Shiro-san and Kenji.
The main Blu-ray contains the 120-minute film and seven minutes of trailers. It offers Japanese DTS-HD Master Audio in 5.1-channel surround and two-channel stereo, an accessible Japanese audio-description track in two-channel DTS-HD Master Audio, and accessible Japanese subtitles.
The 131-minute bonus Blu-ray contains the complete deleted-scene collection, the complete collection of outtakes and improvised scenes, a look behind the opening sequence, making-of footage and interviews, and event footage from the completed-film report meeting and opening-day stage greetings. Its audio is Japanese two-channel DTS-HD Master Audio. The deluxe edition is packaged in a digipak and a specially designed three-sided case.
The cast includes Hidetoshi Nishijima, Masaaki Uchino, Koji Yamamoto, Hayato Isomura, Makita Sports, Atsuko Takaizumi, Hokuto Matsumura of SixTONES, Misako Tanaka in a special guest appearance, Chan Kawai, Kaoru Okunuki, Ryosei Tayama and Meiko Kaji. Based on Fumi Yoshinaga's manga serialized in Kodansha's Morning, the film is directed by Kazuhito Nakae and written by Naoko Adachi. Spitz performs the theme song Daikobutsu.
