Yoshitomo Nara - The Never-Ending Story examines the artist's development across five chapters, from his Tohoku roots and childhood discovery of music to art school in Japan and his years in Germany. It also considers the tensions accompanying his widespread recognition in the 2000s, his renewed connection with the north after the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, and his thoughts about the future.
Art historian Yeewan Koon draws on sustained interviews, testimony and archival research in close collaboration with Nara. Around 400 images combine artworks, travel photographs and rare documents, with nine newer works included specifically for the Japanese edition. Translated by Haruko Kono and published by Seigensha, this Japanese-language monograph contains 384 pages.
