A supernatural mystery takes an unexpected turn into a battle between gods. Inspired by Japanese mythology, this unusual mystery drama follows the All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office as it investigates familiar modern crimes intertwined with incidents beyond ordinary understanding.
Its cases span every domain, including mysterious disappearances, shadow men and fox possession—anomalies that defy the assumptions of modern science. Individual investigations develop alongside a larger case running through the entire story, with unpredictable turns and startling revelations. The series inspired lively discussion online, particularly speculation about the identity of the god Hiruko, and continued requests for a home-video release after its broadcast ended.
Koyume Amano, a colour guard member of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s band, is suddenly ordered to transfer to the All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office, known as Zenket. At its headquarters, which resembles a shrine office, she meets acting chief Miyabi Okitama.
Okitama explains that Zenket is the world’s oldest investigative organisation, dating back to the Yamato court. Reporting directly to the Cabinet Secretariat, it investigates inexplicable incidents that appear supernatural. Koyume is astonished that such an institution exists and wonders why she has been assigned there.
Okitama describes the disappearance cases currently under investigation. The first occurred about six months earlier. Clothing, belongings and a large amount of blood remained at the scene, but no body was found, as though only the person’s body had vanished.
A statement subsequently appeared online declaring, “This is a spiriting away” and “I am Hiruko, one of the gods.” Similar incidents followed, with Hiruko issuing a statement each time. People gradually began to believe in and fear this presence; some even started to worship it.
On the instructions of Zenket director Tamio Ukino, Okitama and Koyume join the police’s First Investigation Division. There they meet inspector Kengo Aranami and investigators Nonoko Ninomiya and Tenma Kitano, who are reviewing the case materials.
Although suspicious of the newcomers, Aranami explains why Rui Matsumiya is a person of interest. A former member of an underground male idol group, Matsumiya now earns money by dating female fans after the group’s disbandment.
Of the eight disappearance cases, he was the first person to discover the three most recent scenes. All three victims were devoted fans who had repeatedly dated him. Yet he has an alibi: security cameras show him working in a shared office when the crimes occurred.
After the first incident, Matsumiya began claiming that he could see Hiruko, attracting intense attention online. His warnings on social media and video platforms have since grown into a popular channel with more than eight million subscribers. He says that space appears distorted when Hiruko comes near.
Security footage near one crime scene shows a moving humanlike shadow resembling a broken mosaic. Okitama suggests that the culprit may be a shadow man—a luminous humanoid cryptid—rather than Hiruko. Is a god truly responsible, or is something else behind the disappearances? What answer will the investigators uncover?
