Galaxy Express 999 4K Remaster UHD + Blu-ray

A landmark of Japanese animation, the theatrical Galaxy Express 999 returns for a new viewing experience. A five-kilopixel film scan and 4K HDR remaster bring fresh clarity and three-dimensional sound to this classic.

In a future where people have gained eternal life by replacing their bodies with machines, Tetsuro cannot afford a mechanical body. He dreams of boarding the Galaxy Super Express 999, which travels to a planet where mechanical bodies are given away for free.

After Count Mecha takes his mother's life, a mysterious beautiful woman named Maetel gives Tetsuro a pass for the 999, and the two leave Earth together. During their journey, he meets Antares, the pirate Queen Emeraldas, Captain Harlock and Harlock's close friend Tochiro. Tetsuro grows stronger through these encounters. But what awaits him at the 999's terminal station?

The standard two-disc release presents the film on Ultra HD Blu-ray in the 16:9 theatrical format and on Blu-ray in 4:3 standard format. Although the original animation was drawn in 4:3, it was created for theatrical projection with the top and bottom masked to a widescreen image. Consequently, some scenes in the open 4:3 image have unfinished artwork at the edges or missing on-screen lettering.

The Blu-ray extras include a teaser, two theatrical-trailer versions running three minutes seventeen seconds and three minutes thirty-six seconds, and fifteen-second and thirty-second television spots. The film runs 128 minutes. The UHD has Dolby TrueHD with Dolby Atmos, while the Blu-ray offers Linear PCM 5.1-channel, two-channel and original mono audio in Japanese.
