Gokusen Second Series Blu-ray Box returns to Yankumi's determined fight for students whom everyone else has written off. Yukie Nakama plays Kumiko Yamaguchi, the passionate teacher whose family belongs to the Oedo yakuza clan. She tries to keep that background out of the classroom, but her uncompromising sense of justice and formidable fighting skills are never far away when her pupils need help.
All 10 episodes of the 2005 series are included, with Kazuya Kamenashi and Jin Akanishi joining a cast that also features Katsuhisa Namase, Shosuke Tanihara, Mocomichi Hayami, Teppei Koike and Keisuke Koide. Adapted from Kozueko Morimoto's manga, the drama explores loyalty, friendship, family and the importance of making the most of school life.
The Ura Gokusen supplements combine making footage and interviews in sections devoted to Yankumi, the Kurogin Academy teachers, the Oedo family, Tsuchiya, Takeda and Hyuga, and Ryu and Hayato. A collection of outtakes and filming wrap-ups rounds out the behind-the-scenes material, while a graduation-album-style photo booklet accompanies the three discs.
This region-free Blu-ray collection contains approximately 526 minutes of drama and 63 minutes of extras. Japanese Linear PCM 2.0 stereo audio is included, with Japanese subtitles for the main programme. The series appears in 16:9 1080i, while the supplementary footage retains a 4:3 picture within the frame.
