Higurashi: When They Cry Anime

An entirely new story takes us to a Hinamizawa no one yet knows. The legendary Higurashi When They Cry series, once a nationwide sensation, begins a new project.

Far from the city, the village of Hinamizawa lies amid deeply rooted natural surroundings. Once destined to disappear beneath a dam, it remains unchanged as it welcomes transfer student Keiichi Maebara. To Keiichi, who grew up in the city, the lively, peaceful days he spends with his new friends seem like happiness that will last forever.

Until the day of Watanagashi, the village's annual festival. June 1983. When the cicadas cry, everyday life suddenly ends and an unstoppable chain of tragedies begins.

This regular edition contains all four chapters of the Onidamashi Arc, episodes one through four. The recurring video extras are the creditless opening and ending sequences. The original first-production set included the main Blu-ray and soundtrack CD, an outer case illustrated by character designer Akio Watanabe, storyboards and a special booklet. Those first-production items depend on the copy available.

The cast features Soichiro Hoshi as Keiichi Maebara, Mai Nakahara as Rena Ryugu, Satsuki Yukino as both Mion and Shion Sonozaki, Mika Kanai as Satoko Hojo, Yukari Tamura as Rika Furude, Chafurin as Kuraudo Oishi, Toru Okawa as Jiro Tomitake, Miki Ito as Miyo Takano, Toshihiko Seki as Kyosuke Irie and Yui Horie as Hanyu.
