Hotei Still Dreamin Limited Complete Edition Blu-ray

The first documentary film celebrating forty years of Hotei's artistic career arrives as a physical release. It brings together live scenes from 1988 onwards, historic moments that became turning points in his career and rare interviews from those periods. Hotei narrates the entire film himself, revisiting its many subjects through both past and present perspectives.

The film follows his journey through a wealth of previously unseen footage, while also revealing frankly how he has approached music during life with COVID-19 since 2020. Self-recorded footage from his home during London's lockdown and candid moments backstage at his audience-free livestreamed Nippon Budokan concert in January 2021 show his struggles as a person as well as a musician, conveying his feelings directly.

It also captures his unyielding determination to overcome the pandemic, his efforts to turn what he believes he should do as an artist into action and his many positive words. These moments offer encouragement to those living through the same era and invite us to imagine the future beyond his fortieth anniversary.

This collaboration offers more than a documentary about the life of a rock guitarist: it also holds historical value as a record of forty years from the dawn of Japanese rock to the present.

The release adds previously unreleased documentary footage that was not used in the film, together with teaser and trailer footage.

The limited Complete Edition also includes both fortieth-anniversary concerts held over two days at G Messe Gunma in Hotei's hometown of Takasaki. Only portions appeared at the end of the film; here the concerts are presented in full. The film and live performances together look back over the history of his forty years as an artist.
