Hack even the despair of death
The sequel to Death end re;Quest, which shocked players with its many bad endings, is here. Can you endure fear and despair that surpass the previous game?
This gothic horror suspense story is by Makoto Kedouin, the creator of numerous popular works in the grotesque horror genre.
Characters designed by Kei Nanameda include the main cast and a varied supporting cast, with more than thirty characters appearing.
There are over ninety events across the main story and side events. Choices within the events can also change the characters' fates.
The story places importance on being enjoyable even without having played the previous game, through an entirely new setting. Returning supporting characters also give earlier players something to enjoy.
Every character is fully voiced, with over 12,000 voice lines in total. Numerous skits let characters converse according to the situation, and camping includes additional side events.
A tragedy in a distant, cursed town
Unexplained phenomena, dormitory students disappearing one after another, the town's conspiracy, and the whereabouts of a younger sister... Fear beyond that of the previous game awaits.
Many mysteries intertwine in this RPG of terror and despair.
Unlike the previous game's bugs, a curse corrodes a town set in the real world. Make use of bugs and the curse while sending enemies flying through the knockback system.
The series' distinctive Death Ends remain. During story events or dungeon exploration, a wrong action can bring about a special game over.
Stronger battles and deeper exploration
The previous battle system has been further strengthened. Improvements focus particularly on areas where players had expressed dissatisfaction; distinctive series elements such as the Knockback system and genre installation have also been enhanced.
In battle, the Triact system lets you perform three actions in one turn, choosing freely from Attack, Item, Guard and Skill.
For example, choosing Attack, Guard and Item lets you attack, defend and use an item during the same turn. This system makes each turn more strategic while keeping battles fast-paced.
The previous game's enemy-launching Knockback has been upgraded into Super Knockback, sending enemies farther and inflicting additional damage.
Aim the direction of your attack and strike an enemy with a skill that produces Super Knockback. The launched enemy can collide with others, dealing damage to multiple enemies.
Dungeon exploration has also been expanded. The new Black Shadow and Berserker systems add tension, while bug actions that make use of bugs give exploration greater depth.
The explorable areas surround the Wordsworth orphanage. Explore monster-infested fields to discover the cause of the curse spreading through Le Choara at night.
Story
Mai, branded a “father-killer,” is sent to the Wordsworth orphanage in the cursed town of Le Choara.
Her one remaining hope, her long-lost younger sister Sanae, is said to live there too. As soon as she enters the dormitory, Mai tries to find her sister—but everyone says they know no such girl.
With inexplicable incidents happening every day, Mai feels she is on the verge of losing her sanity.
Putting her hopes in a single USB drive in her pocket, she begins investigating Le Choara using Arata Mizunashi's computer and the power of a curse—hacking.
And this marks the beginning of a new rondo of despair...
The genius programmer Arata Mizunashi has lost his sanity and disappeared. More than twenty girls weave a tragedy of death.
El Strain, where faith blossoms—and “Barbos is always watching” it all.
Mai Toyama
A girl who enters the Wordsworth girls' dormitory, an orphanage in Le Choara.
Her father became deranged and threatened Mai with a blade. When she resisted, he died in an unforeseen accident.
Nearly dead from dehydration, she was saved by a city employee who happened to come to check on her.
An investigation revealed that her mother, Phyllis, had already died. With Mai confirmed to be an orphan, the girls' dormitory took her in.
She is quiet and gives a gloomy impression. Her deteriorating relationship with her parents caused her to build a shield around her heart.
Although her IQ is very high, she has received almost no education. Her knowledge and emotional expression are consequently unbalanced, and she sometimes behaves unexpectedly, such as suddenly shouting.
Rotten Dollhart
A girl living in the girls' dormitory in Le Choara, nicknamed Rottie. Her bright, kind, refined manner earns the respect of all the dormitory's residents.
Curious and caring, she immediately wants to get involved whenever she encounters a mystery.
Her personality is extreme and somewhat detached from ordinary life; she sometimes shows an absent-minded side.
She approaches everyone with an open heart, so she enthusiastically tries to befriend the newcomer Mai, repeatedly getting nowhere. Before they realize it, the two have become close friends.
Liliana Pinnata
A young girl living in the girls' dormitory in Le Choara.
Her father died by suicide after demonic possession. Her mother, left behind, also lost her sanity and abused her daughter.
Because of how her father died, Liliana believes demons caused the ruin of her family. She tells Mai and the others: “In the future, I will join the church to exorcise demons.”
Despite her young age and appearance, she speaks eloquently and with a mature manner, making her seem more dependable than anyone else in the dormitory.
But she was separated from her parents at an age when she should have received their full love. Deep down, she longs for a maternal presence.
Shina Ninomiya
A game designer who once joined and worked for the Japanese company Enigma. Her current whereabouts are entirely unknown.
Together with the programmer hailed as a genius, Arata Mizunashi, she completed the Iris game engine and the VRMMO World's Odyssey.
Arata explained the secret of the previous game's degradation—reconstruction—to her, so she understands the structure of the world to some extent.
Several years after World's Odyssey was completed, Arata suddenly vanished. Shina went after him and also disappeared.
