The star ocean moves again after seven years

Since its first installment, Star Ocean has told ensemble stories across the galaxy. Star Ocean 5 weaves a new tale with a planet and characters different from earlier games. Its stage is Faykreed, an undeveloped planet more than 6,000 light-years from Earth, where an unprecedented struggle surrounding one girl is about to begin.

A wave of history in a corner of the galaxy

Centuries have passed since humanity left Earth. After overcoming many hardships, humanity built order and peace through the establishment and expansion of the Galactic Federation. Yet the depths of the universe would not permit that peace. A new spark of conflict on a frontier planet spreads into a battle capable of determining the fate of the stars.

The story takes place in Space Date 537, between Star Ocean 2 and Star Ocean 3. Its world blends science fiction and fantasy: Faykreed's culture and technology resemble Earth's fifteenth to sixteenth centuries, while the adventure extends into an unknown world of advanced science and technology.

For experienced players and newcomers alike

Traditional Star Ocean systems gain new elements for deeper enjoyment. First-time players can use an approachable game system, and the story is not a continuation that requires playing earlier entries.

Private Actions

In towns and while traveling, Private Actions let you converse with individual characters. Conversations change with story progress and the characters' feelings. Some are important events connected to the main story or reveal a character's secrets.

Seamless fields and real-time battles

The game moves from field exploration into battle without switching screens, increasing immersion beyond earlier entries. Symbol-based encounters evolve into a seamless field where movement and combat connect in real time. Intuitive controls make exhilarating combinations of attacks possible.

Combat retains the series' three-way relationship: fast small attacks, powerful large attacks, and guards that block small attacks. Choose between them to fight strategically. Battles can involve up to seven party characters simultaneously; this is a party size, not a seven-player multiplayer claim.

Voices and character design

The distinctive cast is voiced by Kaito Ishikawa, Nao Toyama, Yuichi Nakamura, Aya Endo, Yui Ogura, Junichi Suwabe and Ayumi Fujimura.

Character designer akiman, whose representative works include Street Fighter II and Turn A Gundam, also supervises the in-game 3D character models.

Many elements to explore

Popular series features such as Item Creation and Private Actions evolve with new additions. Item creation, skill development and individual events with companions offer many elements to pursue.
