Toukiden: Kiwami returns in the Koei Tecmo the Best edition. Become a Mononofu and face Oni in powerful hunting action built around destroying their body parts.

New weapons, unknown Oni and new Mitama

Alongside the original Toukiden’s content, Kiwami greatly expands every element with higher-difficulty missions, new weapon types such as the naginata, and new fighting styles. Many new Oni appear, including the unknown Imihayahi from the northern lands, bringing their number to around twice that of the earlier game. Their enhanced movements make battles even more tense.

An unending battlefield

New special missions offer a different challenge to Mononofu who want more than battles against predetermined Oni. Some Mitama and rewards can only be obtained in these special missions. Collect weapons and armor crafted from materials acquired from new Oni, alongside many other opportunities to play in depth.

Cooperation opens up new action

Cooperative battles support up to four players, with new systems that make coordination with companions even more rewarding. Cooperating with other players or NPCs allows a special attack even more powerful than the Destroyer technique that severs an Oni’s body part in one blow.

Companion AI has been refined, making fellow Mononofu smarter and more human in their movements. Coordinate with them to face the Oni.

A deeper Toukiden world

Following the previous game’s story, Kiwami adds a new story of approximately the same length. It explores the world more deeply, revealing the origins of the Mononofu and the existence of the Onmyo organization, subjects largely unexplained in the original.

Returning Mononofu such as Ouka and Hayatori, and the NPCs of Utakata Village, appear alongside appealing new characters including the naginata-wielding Reki, as an epic story unfolds.

More realistic graphics

The PlayStation 4 hardware substantially improves graphic quality. Character textures, field presentation and the immediacy of play advance dramatically. Oni and characters’ skin and clothing display realistic detail. Battlefield regions and invaded areas reproduce eerie light and fantastical atmosphere with a powerful sense of presence.

PlayStation Vita cross-play and cross-save

The PS4 release supports online multiplayer across platforms with the PlayStation Vita version of Toukiden: Kiwami. Cross-save also lets you carry Vita save data and DLC into PS4, or carry PS4 data back to Vita. Cross-save requires an online connection.

Some content differs between the versions. The PS4 release does not include the Vita-exclusive collaboration missions Hell’s Watchdog and The King and the Wolfhound’s Feast.

The publisher also announced support for transferring saves from the original PlayStation Vita Toukiden to PS4 Kiwami through a dedicated patch, originally planned alongside the PS4 launch. The series overview states that weapons, armor, Mitama and progress can be carried over, and describes PSP-to-Vita transfer for those earlier handheld releases.

Share your feats and enjoy refined battles

PS4’s SHARE function allows screenshots and videos of play to be broadcast and shared easily. Show Mononofu around the world the struggles of a newcomer or the exceptional techniques of an experienced hunter.

Adjustments to Oni behavior, mission difficulty and overall balance increase the exhilaration of battle. The original PS4 announcement also planned equivalent updates for the then-available Vita and PSP versions.
