“Authentic Chinese cuisine is now on the menu.” ZUTOMAYO presents Honkaku Chuka Kissa Ai no Pegasus — Rabu no Koshinryo, the special live show held at K-Arena Yokohama in May 2024. With an audience of 20,000, it was the band’s largest concert to date. This release captures the complete performance from May 5, 2024.

An accompanying Real Sound account describes two things that became clear on attending ZUTOMAYO’s K-Arena Yokohama shows on May 4 and 5, 2024. The first is that, above all else, ZUTOMAYO is a live band: one of Japan’s finest today, and a unique presence among bands drawing audiences in the tens of thousands to venues of this size.

The second is that the band’s unconventional line-up and many inventive instruments had previously made its avant-garde qualities function as a musical spice. At these shows, those qualities moved from the background to the foreground, revealing a truly avant-garde musical collective. What matters is that the band has lost none of its existing pop appeal. In other words, being avant-garde has not become an end in itself; it is something the band has inevitably arrived at by pursuing pop to its fullest extent.
