The Darwin Incident

Afternoon KC The Darwin Incident Vol. 1 is an official Japanese paper manga volume by Shun Umezawa, published by Kodansha under the Afternoon KC label.

When the terrorist organization Animal Liberation Alliance (ALA) attacks a bioscience research institute, a pregnant female chimpanzee is rescued. She gives birth to Charlie, a 'humanzee' who is half human and half chimpanzee. Raised for fifteen years by human parents, Charlie is about to enter high school. There he meets Lucy, a brilliant girl with few friends. Terrorism, online firestorms, discrimination... A human and non-human drama in which the non-human Charlie, together with Lucy, confronts the problems humanity faces. An acclaimed work that has earned numerous honors, including the Manga Taisho 2022 Grand Prize, tenth place in the men's category of Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2022 (Takarajimasha), and an Excellence Award in the Manga Division of the 25th Japan Media Arts Festival! Shun Umezawa also attracted attention when his collection Under the Pantyhose-like Sky ranked fourth in the men's category of Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2017.
